Applebees and Chili's

Applebee’s and Chili’s, although not strictly fast food, serve as an easy and relatively cheap place for a meal. Applebee’s, the largest restaurant chain of its kind in America, advertises in a way that appeals to all races and both sexes. It’s slogan ‘Eatin good in the neighborhood’ aims at young groups of friends and families. Applebee’s newest advertising campaign includes comedian Wanda Sykes as the narrator (Quenqua 1). Wanda Sykes, an African American homosexual, breaks the mold of the traditional narrator. Chili’s commercials feature a variety of ethnicities, more often than not in mixed racial groups, of both genders and a broad spectrum of ages. This advertising technique does not alienate any potential customers.
