Popular Music Videos Effect On Teen Sexual Attitudes

POPULAR MUSIC VIDEOS EFFECT ON TEEN SEXUAL ATTITUDES
Over the top visuals in music videos and sexual spectacles have been shown to influence teen sexual attitudes and tendencies. In a study by Dr. Brown and Newcomber in 2006, the proved that teens with a larger “media-diet” engaged in sex more than their teen counterparts unexposed to popular music videos. (Kristler, 70)

TECHNOLOGY CHANGING GENDER PERCEPTIONS
The non-traditional aspect of today’s gender construction through music is in the technology we have. Recording techniques and audio editing allow producers to modify vocal timbre, thus changing our gender perception of the voice. Jarman-Ivens states “…music articulates a complex space in which genre and voice intersect with music and sexuality.” This being true, artificially modified voices can convey sexually exactly what the producer wants. With this they can aim towards profits or arts.

DRAG
Our culture has come to accept and almost endear drag performers. At first they were extremely eccentric and unacceptable. Society has come to accept them even seek their shows as form of entertainment. Drag is very prominent in music videos and in live performances. It has become culturally acceptable. However females dressing as males are not as culturally accepted in music videos.of-montreal.jpg
